MISSION STATEMENT
To create a living museum located in Newfoundland, PA 18445 to preserve, educate and illuminate examples of rural life in the United States of America by recreating living environments surrounding the nation's celebrations in 1876, 1976, and 2076 set on nearly
40 acres of pristine woodlands in Northeast Pennsylvania (N.E.P.A.). The residence house, built from 1839-1841 by John B. Gilpin, will recreate “Smithsonian-like exhibitions” of living dioramas spanning the pre-industrial-industrial revolutions to the technological-information revolutions. The visitor will experience the living historical conditions surrounding the nation's birthdays in 1876, using a potbelly stove, 1976, using an electric oven, and developing into a perception in the year 2076 A.D., perhaps instant meals, including visitor interactivity and take-aways within the exhibits for education and enlightenment.
Having existed for over 186 years, and giving the house a vision into the future in the next 100 years, the visitor experiences a combined 300 year experience of sociological and cultural changes in the eastern United States of America, with additional integration of natural and eco-sustainable visitor activities, including design-renovations, and building operations, production, and function within the GDS House Museum entirety for future preservation and appreciation.
